Who are Merchants?

Merchants refer generally to your favorite sports teams, night clubs, artists, venues, theaters, and the like. For instance in San Francisco the following are examples of merchants that you can favorite on Phone Events:

San Francisco Giants

San Francisco 49ers

Curran Theater

The Fillmore

Ruby Skye

The Warfield

Yoshis San Francisco

Coldplay

Madonna

Wicked

Jersey Boys

Ice Cube

Now you’re probably wondering what Coldplay, Madonna, Wicked, Jersy Boys, or Ice Cube have to do with San Francisco when they are artists or performances. The answer is simple, when you select artist or performances as favorites you get their event information in a given city like San Francisco, as well as their event information in every other city that they have performances. Hence if you travel from San Francisco to New York for business or pleasure, you simply change your location on Phone Events and ALL of your favorites which show for New York. It’s that simple, it’s that cool. :-)

EventListings and MerchantListings Update Dynamically

All of the events on Phone Events are dynamic and update continuously with the exception of the event information supplied by our partner Eventful. This simply means that when you publish a Phone Event, you will be prompted to enter the event time. Your published Phone Event will show at the event time you specified, for the duration of time that you specified when you published the Phone Event. All user submitted Phone Events will be “stacked” in the event listings according to their event time. As you use the Phone Events service, it will continue to update to reflect the correct events according to the time, hence you will see events that are currently taking place as well as events that are upcoming over the next few hours. When a given event expires, which is based on the event time plus the event duration, the event will disapear or “cycle off” of the Phone Events network. Note that when you publish a Phone Event, the dynamic updating applies whether you make your Phone Event public or for your personal network.

Events published by sports teams, bands, night clubs, or other merchants update dynamically as well. They publish into both the event listings and the merchant listings at exactly the same time, and update following the same dynamic protocol that is used for events published by users. The key difference is that the Merchant Listings have no limits when viewing a specific merchant. For example, if you mark Yoshi’s San Francisco as one of your favorites, ALL of the events scheduled and published by Yoshi’s San Francisco will show on your Yoshi’s San Francisco favorite. This means if Yoshi’s San Francisco publishes their event schedule for the next 3 years then you will have it immediately in hand as soon as Yoshi’s publishes it onto the Phone Events network. As time passes, the Yoshi’s San Francisco merchant listings will update as events occur. You don’t have to update your Phone Events profile, and Yoshi’s San Francisco does not have to update their scheduled merchant listings, unless they make scheduling changes.
