PhoneEvents.com and m.PhoneEvents.com recently joined Twitter (http://twitter.com/phoneevents). We will provide updates on happenings in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and many other great cities. We’ll also publish news bursts on artists like Coldplay, Maroon 5, Madonna, and more. Of special note, we’ll let you know if we’ve got tickets to sold out events, even those at hot night clubs like San Francisco’s Ruby Skye, or Vegas’ Ghost Bar.

You can follow us on Twitter by adding Phoneevents or curtis [at] eventmobile [dot] net. Also to remember to look for our logo:

Who are Merchants?

Merchants refer generally to your favorite sports teams, night clubs, artists, venues, theaters, and the like. For instance in San Francisco the following are examples of merchants that you can favorite on Phone Events:

San Francisco Giants

San Francisco 49ers

Curran Theater

The Fillmore

Ruby Skye

The Warfield

Yoshis San Francisco

Coldplay

Madonna

Wicked

Jersey Boys

Ice Cube

Now you’re probably wondering what Coldplay, Madonna, Wicked, Jersy Boys, or Ice Cube have to do with San Francisco when they are artists or performances. The answer is simple, when you select artist or performances as favorites you get their event information in a given city like San Francisco, as well as their event information in every other city that they have performances. Hence if you travel from San Francisco to New York for business or pleasure, you simply change your location on Phone Events and ALL of your favorites which show for New York. It’s that simple, it’s that cool. :-)

EventListings and MerchantListings Update Dynamically

All of the events on Phone Events are dynamic and update continuously with the exception of the event information supplied by our partner Eventful. This simply means that when you publish a Phone Event, you will be prompted to enter the event time. Your published Phone Event will show at the event time you specified, for the duration of time that you specified when you published the Phone Event. All user submitted Phone Events will be “stacked” in the event listings according to their event time. As you use the Phone Events service, it will continue to update to reflect the correct events according to the time, hence you will see events that are currently taking place as well as events that are upcoming over the next few hours. When a given event expires, which is based on the event time plus the event duration, the event will disapear or “cycle off” of the Phone Events network. Note that when you publish a Phone Event, the dynamic updating applies whether you make your Phone Event public or for your personal network.

Events published by sports teams, bands, night clubs, or other merchants update dynamically as well. They publish into both the event listings and the merchant listings at exactly the same time, and update following the same dynamic protocol that is used for events published by users. The key difference is that the Merchant Listings have no limits when viewing a specific merchant. For example, if you mark Yoshi’s San Francisco as one of your favorites, ALL of the events scheduled and published by Yoshi’s San Francisco will show on your Yoshi’s San Francisco favorite. This means if Yoshi’s San Francisco publishes their event schedule for the next 3 years then you will have it immediately in hand as soon as Yoshi’s publishes it onto the Phone Events network. As time passes, the Yoshi’s San Francisco merchant listings will update as events occur. You don’t have to update your Phone Events profile, and Yoshi’s San Francisco does not have to update their scheduled merchant listings, unless they make scheduling changes.

http://m.phoneevents.com on your cell phone

When using the Phone Events service, we recommend that you use the following URL to access the service on your cell phone:

http://m.phoneevents.com

We recommend this URL for now (even for iPhone users) as it is better optimized for speed. It also will detect what type of phone browser your cell phone uses, and will adjust the Phone Events experience accordingly. The Phone Events service works for more than 2 billion cell phones world wide at m.phoneevents.com, therefore if your phone has Internet access, than we likely support it. You also don’t need to download any software to use Phone Events.

Please let us know your experience using m.phoneevents.com. Make sure to include your carrier and phone type as this will help us better understand which carriers (if any) and phone types are problematic for use of Phone Events.

Finally, when you access http://m.phoneevents.com on your cell phone, remember to mark it as a favorite so that you can access Phone Events in one click at future dates when looking for things to do.

Upgrade to MerchantListings Released Today

We have been working daily to improve the overall functionality of the MerchantListings. We have focused our efforts on three primary areas:

1. Speed (Computer and cell phone)

2. Comprehensiveness

3. Usabililty

We continue to be challenged to deliver a great user experience for Phone Events users by computer and cell phone concurrently, however we continue to have successful updates. Today we released a significant upgrade to the MerchantListings which improved the access speed within a given city, as well as the overall usability when you search the MerchantListings or change favorite cities. You may experience some sluggishness initially when signing in to Phone Events, or when accessing the MerchantListings, but after you’re in the service, or accessed the MerchantListings, the responsiveness is crisp, particularly on a computer. When using your cell phone, you won’t see the speeds you see on your computer, but you should experience a responsive service with marginal wait times. 3G cell phones like the Samsung BlackJack, the Apple iPhone 3G, and the Nokia N95 (to name a few) should have fast response times.

Please provide feedback on your overall experience (computer and cell phone) as it will help us continually improve the service.

Madonna Opens Sticky and Sweet Tour

Madonna opened her Sticky and Sweet Tour last night in a sold out Cardiff, Wales. Amidst several controversial political statements, she mixed in hits from her latest CD Hard Candy, with many of her classics spanning the last 25 years. What’s most amazing, Madonna is now 50 years old and still looks great.

The remaining dates of Madonna’s Sticky and Sweet Tour are sold out, but we’ve got tickets for nearly all upcoming dates. Simply go to the MerchantListings, and Search MerchantListings performers for Madonna. Add her as a favorite, and you’ll have ALL of her tour as well as available tickets.

MerchantListings Not Functioning Properly

We’ve received some complaints that our MerchantListings feature is not functioning properly. We’re currently working to resolve the problems which we expect to resolve over the next few days.

We added more features to the MerchantListings which apparently caused some breakdown in existing functions of the MerchantListings.

We apologize to all for the inconvenience, and will update you as soon as the problems are fixed. In the interim, we ask that you do not attempt to use the MerchantListings as the EventListings and mobile tickets services are still functioning correctly.

MerchantListings Coming Over the Next Week

Our proprietary MerchantListings functionality is nearly ready for release. We had originally hoped to release this feature set when we release our mobile tickets service, but technical issues prevailed and prevented us from releasing the MerchantListings.

When we release the features, you will be able to add your favorite venues, performers, artists, and sports teams to your personalized Phone Events service. Upon doing so, you’ll always have in hand updated events and available tickets for all of your favorites. You’ll also receive promotions and offers directly from the venues, performers, artists, and sports teams.

Say goodbye to junkmail and email spam! ;-)
